Bastille Day, France’s national holiday, provides the French with yet another good reason to celebrate. Marking the storming of the Bastille prison on July 14th, 1789, and the beginning of the French Revolution, Bastille Day gives rise to patriotic parades, fireworks and bals populaires (dancing in the streets) all throughout the country.
Cities and villages in Provence add a quaint touch with pétanque competitions, pistou soup, and bull races.
AUCP summer students will join the fun in Aix or Marseille and learn how la Provence profonde (France’s « deep south ») rocks on Bastille Day!
